I'm sure the Queen will hit her century. Charles might still be with us then but his reign would not be a long one - really because his mother came to the throne at such a young age. What a marvellous woman, carrying on an important full-time occupation well into her eighties. And she's outlived so many Prime Ministers, I think demonstrating the enormous value in the monarchy being there and aside from the politics of the day. A majority of Aussies want to be a republic even though Oz is one of the world's oldest and best functioning constitutional monarchies. Fortunately the republicans are bitterly divided on the sort of republic they want.

I clicked onto the article from link supplied (thanks, AW). The Queen in her photo is looking remarkably well - at 84. I also looked down at the "Comments" section below - mostly supportive but two very nasty mean-spirited ones, exactly like the sort of comments that often appear when online readers are given the opportunity. When the Queen visits Oz, similar nasty comments get into the newspapers. While we cherish the opportunities for some free speech and expression of opinion, a lot of those offered are nothing ore than nasty jibes that say a lot about the sort of people sending them.

"I'd like to have lunch with her again, and I'd like to go to a rock concert with her," bubbled Mr. Bronfman, a scion of one of Canada's wealthiest families and an outsized rock 'n' roll fan. "Roger Waters is coming in September. I invited her to come and see Paul McCartney in town next month. She said she's going to be busy."

In other words, she said, " In your dreams, tosser "

There will always be those contrarian individuals that feel they have to exercise their right to belittle a positive event, John. It's probably another part of the "Lamlam" syndrome.

And if she wasn't too busy to attend, she'd probably make sure she was. :-D

New York City is going to be hovering around 100 today!!! Don't think she will be outside for too long, bless her. You can say what you want about the Royal Family, but the Queen has been a marvelous figurehead for Gt. Britain. Have seen her a few times, and my heart swells with pride. :girl) Long may she reign :-)

I would have said that, pre-Dianna, but now I'm afraid they are just heartless money hoarding machines to me. Let's hope the sensible son regains the nations pride. His father seems ready to hand the job over to the Islamics. And yes! Before anyone put me down, I know they bring in the tourists!

I'm biased - very pro the Monarchy. I think they're worth every penny.
