Poor Mix?

Postby Barryoneoff » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:43 pm

I used to walk past this place twice a day not long after it was built. I could see what a white elephant it was destined to be, and wondered why Livingstone's LDA spent 27 million pounds building it! :-x Surely the money could have gone on a more worthy cause than importing people from Pakistan to pimp a car, having people lie in wooden boxes and other such "art"!

TOWN Hall bosses will be deciding next week whether to give a cash lifeline to the troubled Rich Mix arts centre to help keep it afloat. The troubled Bethnal Green s crisis-hit arts project has been forced to go cap in hand once again to Tower Hamlets.
According to a report which will be presented to the committee, the centre has already received £3.9m of funding from the council since it opened in 2006, including a loan of £850,000 which has not yet been repaid.

And in 2007, the centre was also forced to call on the Arts Council for some extra financial help despite receiving £700,000 from it every year.

Seems it's had more than enough money pumped into it already - time to stop I'd say.
