Postby cockneyoz » Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:43 am

I've just found an old recipe for caraway cake in a 1920 household encyclopedia, i haven't had that since i was a kid, if i can find out where i can buy the seeds I'll make the cake and let you know how it turns out. do they still put caraway seeds inside aniseed balls? :?

We can get caraway seeds quite easily in Switzerland. they sell them in all supermarkets - are used a lot for various flavoured backeries. There is also an Indian variation, called jeera by the Indians, or cumin. The taste is slightly different and used in nearly all curries.

We can get most herbs and spices here, but i don't remember ever seeing caraway seeds, I'll probably have to go to an Asian shop, but now that I've seen the recipe there's no stopping me.

Maybe you can get them in a health food shop if they're not in the supermarkets Cockneyoz. Haven't had caraway cake for donkey's years - we used to have bread made with them too yumm. Let's know how you get on.
