Scientists Dismiss 'Sunburnt Plants'

A long held belief among gardeners that watering plants in the heat of the midday sun can damage the leaves has been proved false following research by scientists.

I don't know whether there is any truth in that or not. all I know is that I have always watered my plants when they looked like they needed water, midday sun or not. When I had time and when I felt like it. My garden is still alive and everything is thriving as usual (sometimes it thrives a bit too much). I very rarely go by the book with anything, just intuition and feelings. Never really needed a scientist to tell me what to do. There are always plenty of neighbours and people that think they know it all and give me their advice. I just nod and carry on as usual.

At last finished reading Deutschstunde (was a heavy one) by Siegfried Lenz and am now reading The Ghost by Robert Harris

Well that turns long-held beliefs on their head.

It still makes sense to me to water the garden in the late afternoon because it's cooler
and only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun :whis:
Cheers all, Bottoms up

I never water the plants in the sun for the simple reason it evaporates before it has done them any good.
