Survivor of the tube disaster sought.

Postby Barryoneoff » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:59 pm

I got the following E-mail and wondered if anyone passing through could help. I've also recommended she tries the Stairway to Heaven website.

Hi Barry

I have recently discovered my link to the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster. At the age of 35 I discovered I had a half-sister and of course this was a shock to me. My father had told me his first wife had died in childbirth and I always believed the child to have died also, I was never told otherwise and my parents were not ones to discuss their past. They maintained their life began when they met each other in 1949. I have another half sister on my mother\'s side and it was talking to her recently that I discovered that my other half-sister\'s mother\'s parents and brother both died in the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, which consequently brought on labour and the child that was born survived, the mother did not. Somewhere out there I have another half-sister, Patricia is her name but that is all I know. She was a consequence of this awful disaster. The names of the victims I have tracked down to be Thomas, Florence and Thomas Jnr. Lechmere. I believe Patricia was adopted by family members and because of this, when my father tried to get his daughter back, he was refused and estranged from his family. If you discover any further information, I would be most grateful as I am trying to track Patricia down before both of us 'pop our clogs'.
Many thanks for reading this and allowing me to rant on.
Beverley Dinsdale (nee Yeomans).

The names of the victims are all on the stairway to heaven website and Lechmere is there, My hubby worked with two brothers of that name in the 50s at Wells BRS depot Cambridge Heath rd, think they were from a big family who lived in a turning past the library in Bethnal Green. Sorry i cant be more helpful.

I was looking on the internet and found a list of the victims - it gives addresses - not sure if you already have this
